About the Initiative
The Institute for Molecular Recognition and Technological Development (IDM) actively participates in major science outreach events, including Expociència at the Science Park of the Universitat de València (PCUV) and the Fira dels Invents of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
Through interactive workshops and hands-on demonstrations, these initiatives bring cutting-edge research closer to society and promote scientific culture among visitors of all ages.
Connecting research, education and society through accessible scientific experiences.

Our Journey
Since 2025, the IDM has taken part in both events, presenting engaging activities that showcase the institute’s research in chemistry, molecular recognition, nanotechnology and advanced sensing technologies.

Expociència
Interactive chemistry workshops transform research into an accessible and visually engaging experience for families, students and the wider public.

Fira dels Invents
Advanced sensing technologies and nanotechnology are presented through demonstrations that connect laboratory innovation with everyday challenges.
Since 2025
Science beyond the laboratory
These annual events create a direct meeting point between researchers, students, families and the general public.

Expociència
At Expociència, the IDM organizes the Silver Mirror workshop, where participants observe the formation of a metallic silver coating on glass through the classical silver mirror reaction.
This activity introduces visitors to fundamental concepts in chemistry and materials science through a simple yet visually striking experiment.

Fira dels Invents
At the Fira dels Invents, the IDM presents interactive demonstrations focused on advanced sensors, illustrating how molecular recognition and nanotechnology enable the development of innovative technologies.
The demonstrations connect these technologies with applications in healthcare, food safety, environmental monitoring and other societal challenges.

Student Participation
A key feature of both initiatives is the active participation of final-year undergraduate and Master’s students carrying out their research projects in the IDM laboratories, together with PhD students.
Working alongside senior researchers, they contribute to the design and delivery of the activities while developing valuable science communication skills.
Designed for families, school groups and the general public, these outreach activities combine scientific rigor with engaging, hands-on experiences that make complex concepts accessible and stimulate curiosity about science and innovation.
