We are delighted to announce that ReCoTA (Reconfigurable Colloids for Therapeutic Applications) has been awarded funding as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network, coordinated by Antoni Llopis Llorente and Ramón Martínez Máñez, from the NANOSENS group.
ReCoTA is an interdisciplinary training network focused on smart colloidal materials for therapeutic applications. Over the past decades, major efforts have advanced the development of colloids (micro- and nanoparticles) for drug delivery. Yet, while these systems have improved pharmacokinetics, they mainly act as passive carriers that release their payload through simple diffusion or unspecific degradation. ReCoTA will take the next step, designing colloids through molecular and nanomaterials engineering to obtain programmable assemblies capable of reading environmental cues and translating them into localised therapeutic delivery.
The consortium brings together top-tier academic institutions, including several ERC AdG/CoG/StG and EIC grantees, and nine companies with complementary expertise in materials engineering, synthetic chemistry, drug development and manufacturing scale-up. Over the course of the project, 15 Doctoral Candidates will be trained in molecular building-block design, fabrication and functionalisation of micro-/nano-assemblies, and rigorous biological evaluation, through a training programme covering both scientific and non-academic skills to prepare them for careers in academia and industry.
Altogether, ReCoTA will help establish European leadership in next-generation colloids, aligned with health-innovation priorities.
Congratulations to the team!
