  • Congratulations to Dr. López Palacios on her successful PhD Defense

Congratulations to Dr. López Palacios on her successful PhD Defense

Last September 25th, our colleague Alba López, from the NANOSENS group, defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Development of smart gated materials for the rapid detection of pathogens and disease biomarkers”. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Elena Aznar, Prof. Félix Sancenón, and Prof. Ramón Martínez, from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

Her defense was evaluated by the prestigious committee formed by Dr. Victoria Gonzalez, from UPV, Prof. Ángel Ríos from UCLM, and Dr. Yolanda Salinas, from IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences (France).

From IDM, we congratulate you and wish you a successful scientific career full of achievements and new experiences.

    Congratulations, Dr. López Palacios!

  • IDM Coordinates New MSCA Doctoral Network – ReCoTA Project

IDM Coordinates New MSCA Doctoral Network – ReCoTA Project

We are delighted to announce that ReCoTA (Reconfigurable Colloids for Therapeutic Applications) has been awarded funding as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network, coordinated by Antoni Llopis Llorente and Ramón Martínez Máñez, from the NANOSENS group.

ReCoTA is an interdisciplinary training network focused on smart colloidal materials for therapeutic applications. Over the past decades, major efforts have advanced the development of colloids (micro- and nanoparticles) for drug delivery. Yet, while these systems have improved pharmacokinetics, they mainly act as passive carriers that release their payload through simple diffusion or unspecific degradation. ReCoTA will take the next step, designing colloids through molecular and nanomaterials engineering to obtain programmable assemblies capable of reading environmental cues and translating them into localised therapeutic delivery.

The consortium brings together top-tier academic institutions, including several ERC AdG/CoG/StG and EIC grantees, and nine companies with complementary expertise in materials engineering, synthetic chemistry, drug development and manufacturing scale-up. Over the course of the project, 15 Doctoral Candidates will be trained in molecular building-block design, fabrication and functionalisation of micro-/nano-assemblies, and rigorous biological evaluation, through a training programme covering both scientific and non-academic skills to prepare them for careers in academia and industry.

Altogether, ReCoTA will help establish European leadership in next-generation colloids, aligned with health-innovation priorities.

    Congratulations to the team!

  • IDM-UPV Receives Funding to Consolidate Innovation and Tech Transfer

IDM-UPV Receives Funding to Consolidate Innovation and Tech Transfer

We are pleased to announce that funding has been approved for the project ‘Consolidación del Agente de Innovación de IDM-UPV’, under the 2026–2028 Innovation Agents call by the Valencian Institute for Competitiveness and Innovation (IVACE+i, Generalitat Valenciana) and co-financed by the Comunitat Valenciana FEDER Program 2021–2027.

The initiative has been granted €96,264.39 under file number INNTA1/2026/16.

Thanks to this support, Dr. Tania Mariel Godoy Reyes renews her role as Innovation Agent at Universitat Politècnica de València, where she will continue focusing on:

    • Promoting the valorization of our scientific results.
    • Connecting cutting-edge research with the industrial and technological sector.
    • Fostering strategic partnerships with industry companies.
    • Guiding and encouraging participation in R&D projects.

This strengthens our technology transfer framework, consolidating our center’s UCIE and ensuring that the knowledge generated translates into real societal and economic impact.

  • UPV Official Ceremony Welcomes New IDM Full Professors

UPV Official Ceremony Welcomes New IDM Full Professors

On 10 September, the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) held the Solemn Opening Ceremony of the 2026-2027 Academic Year at the Paraninfo of the Vera campus. The event, chaired by Rector José Capilla, brought together the university community to mark the start of the new course with the traditional recognition of academic achievements.

During the ceremony, UPV’s teaching staff were formally recognised for earning their full professorships. Among them were four researchers from our institute, IDM: Prof. Elena Aznar, Prof. Eloisa Jantus, Prof. Luis A. Tortajada and Prof. Sergi Morais.

We warmly congratulate our four colleagues on this well-deserved recognition, which reflects their sustained scientific excellence and their contribution to the research carried out at the IDM.

  • Prof. Daniel García opens our academic year with seminar on Peptide and Protein Chemistry

Prof. Daniel García opens our academic year with seminar on Peptide and Protein Chemistry

Yesterday, we kicked off our academic activities following the summer break with an insightful conference presented by Prof. Daniel García Rivera from the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (Germany) and the University of Havana (Cuba). The event took place at 12:00 p.m. in the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Hall, located on the first floor of Building E (Chemistry) at the Burjassot campus.

During his lecture, titled “Peptide and Protein Derivatization using Chemoselective and Multicomponent Chemistry,” Prof. García Rivera explored novel chemoselective and multicomponent strategies for the derivatization, labeling, and conjugation of peptides and proteins. He highlighted key advances in the field, focusing on their promising applications in developing peptide-drug conjugates for cancer therapy, as well as new antibacterial and antitumor vaccines.

We would like to thank Prof. García Rivera for his presentation and everyone who attended for making our first event of the season a complete success.
